Tribute & Message From The Family

The Turk family mourns the passing of our husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather at the age of 91 on July 29, 2017.

He was a humble man from rural Roanoke County Virginia. He served in the Army twice, once during WW II and again during the Korean Conflict. The GI Bill allowed him to attend Roanoke College and scholarships took him through Washington & Lee University Law School. He worked for Hercules Inc. for thirty-six years and retired in 1990 as General Counsel, Vice-President, and a member of the Board. He volunteered his time on the boards for George Mason University, Radford University, Washington & Lee University, our local school system and the Wilmington Public Library.

More importantly was the active role he played in the raising of his three children beginning with being a "closet diaper changer" back in a generation when that was not considered the norm. He was actively involved throughout his children's and grandchildren's lives providing encouragement, love and support in whatever interests they chose to pursue.

In addition to his family, he had many interests including a life-long love of politics, gardening, church and his precious pets. We, his family, including his wife of 60 years, Patricia Tucker, his three children, Heather Fontaine, William Alexander (and wife Joyce), and Thomas Maynard Tucker, along with his cherished grandchildren, Julia, Allison, Avery, Samuel, Wyatt, Lydia and Clark, loved him dearly and shall miss him enormously.

The family would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude for the caring and kindnesses from the personnel at Home Instead, Vitas Hospice and Christ Church Christiana Hundred.

A memorial service will be held on August 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Church Christiana Hundred, 505 E. Buck Road, Greenville. To honor his passion for the importance of education, in lieu of flowers, we suggest donations to either the Roanoke College Turk Pre-Law Program, 221 College Lane, Salem, VA 24153; the Wilmington Public Library, PO Box 2303, Wilmington, DE 19899 or an educational institution of your choosing.

Condolence & Memory Journal

I had the distinct pleasure and honor to work with Maynard at the Wilmington Library. What a fine man he was. Such a brilliant mind. He was so blessed to be able to look at a complex problem and come to a complete and simple solution. His work on the Board of Managers was much appreciated and he was truly a great asset to the library.

My prayers go out to his family and friends.

I have many fine memories from my high school days of your family. Maynard was a great personality and one of the brightest people I've known. Condolences from an old friend of the family. Jeff Davis

Mrs Turk, Heather, Billy and Tommy.... I'm sorry for your loss. I am sorry I will not be able to attend Mr Turks service....I can still here his voice, I remember many fun times at the Turks house...but the best was when Tommy and I served dog treats to all the guests and Bill Roth and Maynard each ate one... I'm sure they knew they were dog treats,,, but we had so many laughs...
