Mary Elizabeth Koval passed away at home on January 2, 2014 at the age of 79.
Born December 4, 1934 in Teaneck, New Jersey, Mary was the daughter of the late James J. and Mary E. Devine (Maguire). One of five children, Mary graduated from St. Cecilia High School, Englewood, New Jersey and Parsons School of Design, New York City.
Mary worked for PanAm Airlines and for Merritt-Chapman & Scott Corporation, before marrying the love of her life, the late Walter P. Koval, in November of 1956. Together, Mary and Walter lived in Newark, NJ, Wallingford, CT, and Morristown, NJ before settling in Wilmington, DE in 1965, where together they raised their five children. Mary was the cornerstone of her family, a woman of wisdom and grace whose legacy is one of love, family and the power of faith.
She is survived by, and will be dearly missed by, her children, son Walt Koval (Teresa) of Wilmington, DE, son Jon Koval (Olga) of Allen, TX, daughter Stacy Murray (Russell) of Hockessin, DE, daughter Mary Beth Worrilow (Edward) of Wilmington, DE and son Mark Koval (Mary Ellen) of Wilmington DE. Also survived by her beloved grandchildren Wally, Alexandra, Wynn and Gabrielle Koval; Kelsey and Michael Koval; Kelly, Jennifer and Shannon Murray; Eddie (Meghan), Mark, Paul and Jimmy Worrilow; Luke and Caroline Koval; great-grandson Henry Worrilow; and her Brothers James (Sally) and John Devine. Mary is pre-deceased by her husband Walter, her beloved sister Patricia Stevenson (Devine), her brother Thomas Devine and her adored niece, Susan Stevenson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 8th at 11:00 am, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 4701 Weldin Road, Liftwood, Wilmington, DE. Interment will follow at Lower Brandywine Cemetery, 101 Old Kennett Road, Wilmington. Friends and family are encouraged to visit on the evening of Tuesday, January 7th from 6-8 pm at the CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803.
