Our beloved Anna Mae "A.M." Croft, with her dark auburn hair and sparkling blue eyes, was born in the winter of 1918, on a farm just outside of Omaha, Nebraska. She left us all in tears on February 1, 2017. Life will never be the same without her.

When she was a child, Anna Mae lived in many different places, as her family moved wherever her father was working construction. She attended eight different elementary schools before she finished and entered high school. After graduation, she began working as a telephone operator, the first of many jobs in her varied career. She was the manager of a drug store, owned her own beauty shop, and sold jewelry at house parties. She was also a Welcome Wagon hostess, a secret shopper, an executive secretary and an in-home caregiver, just to name a few of her numerous endeavors. She really was a true Renaissance woman.

Anna Mae wasn't all about work, though. As a young girl, she became a proficient pianist, and often accompanied her grandfather when he played his baritone horn in his own orchestra. She also really loved to dance, and she and her husband won several dance contests when they were dating. Playing Tripoley with her whole family at holiday time was always one of her favorite things to do and later she also took up the game of golf with great enthusiasm. She played several times in the LPGA Pro-Am tournaments, and she even made a hole in one once – with witnesses! And it was said when she putted, the ball had eyes.

Anna Mae was married to her husband Charles for almost sixty years and during that time they raised three children. Charles preceded her in death, as did her firstborn son, Ronald Croft. Her second son, Robert Croft, lives in Avondale, PA, and her daughter, Elaine Croft, lives in Wilmington. Anna Mae had two grandsons, Jason (Megan) and Justin Croft and two great-granddaughters, Rian and Hunter Croft. She loved them all, as well as her former daughter-in-law, Debbie Croft, her favorite niece, Billie Lee, her daughter's partner, Wesley Redd, and her kind friends, Edie Slovin and Debbie Hartnett. And of course her precious cat, Serena.

We will say farewell to this amazing woman on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at the Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 PM, followed by a service to celebrate Anna Mae's remarkable life.

Instead of sending flowers, the family would like to suggest donations in her memory to the Delaware Chapter of the MS Society, 200 Continental Drive, Suite 115, Newark, DE 19713.
