Howard Wilk, M.D., 92, died peacefully on April 22, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.

Dr. Wilk was born in Carnegie, PA, and after graduating from Chicago Medical School, he moved to Wilmington, Delaware, where he met his wife of 62 years, the late Judith Feinberg Wilk. After serving in a MASH unit in Korea, Dr. Wilk came back to Wilmington, and began his career as a general surgeon, treating patients for over 40 years until his retirement.

Dr. Wilk had a distinguished medical career during which he held various leadership positions including Chair of the Department of Surgery at the Wilmington Medical Center, President of the Delaware Chapter of the American College of Surgeons, and Adjunct Professor of Surgery at the Sidney Kimmel School of Medicine of Thomas Jefferson University. He also served as the Fire Surgeon for the City of Wilmington.

Dr. Wilk was an avid golfer, and served as the president of the Brandywine Country Club, where he had the unique experience of scoring 3 hole-in-ones during the years of his membership. He also enjoyed traveling around the world with his beloved Judy, and many friends. While Wilmington was his adopted home, Dr. Wilk remained a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan, and also enjoyed watching the athletic achievements of his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his 4 children, David (Sharon), Linda, Richard (Susan), & Robert (Jeannine), along with 10 grand children: Tyler, Adam, Aliya, Tori, Joshua, Joel, Austin, Zack, Hannah & Talia.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 am Tuesday morning, April 25, 2017, at the Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE.

Shiva will be observed Tuesday evening at 5pm, at the home of David & Sharon Wilk, 399 Way Road, Greenville, DE.
