Jerome K. Skiles (Jerry) 86, of Rising Sun, MD, formerly of Wilmington, DE, died at Calvert Manor Healthcare Center on September 14, 2017. Jerry was born in Scottdale, PA on St. Patrick's Day to Marjorie Mullen and James Skiles. He graduated from Scottdale High School in 1949. Following high school, he served in the US Army until 1954. He later attended Palm Beach Jr. College in Lake Park, FL, San Jose City College in San Jose, California, and studied electronic engineering at PMC College in Chester, PA.
Jerry worked for Hewlett Packard in Palo Alto, CA and Avondale PA, Atlantic Aviation in New Castle, DE and ICI (now Astra Zenaca.) He retired from Astra Zenaca in 1991 in order to operate a lawn care franchise. He was able to spend several years in a field that he loved before fully retiring.
Jerry married his wife Janet Hudson on October 25, 1958. Janet passed away in April 2017. In addition to his parents and wife, Jerry was Jerry is survived by daughter Barbara Henderson (Chuck) of Fairhill, MD; grandsons Benjamin Arculus (Stephanie) of Odessa FL, Alex Arculus, Jacob Arculus, and Nicholas Henderson, all of Fairhill MD, and granddaughter Jessie Hollinger of Ft. Meyers, FL. Survivors also include great granddaughters Emma Rose of Odessa, FL and Zoe Hollinger, of Ft. Meyers, FL. And 17 nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Janet, and his parents, Jerry is predeceased by two nephews; William Hennessey and Wes Skiles; step-grandson, Matthew Henderson; two brothers, James Jr. and Robert, and three sisters; Alice Canose, and Frances (Dolly) Wolfe,. His last surviving sibling, Rachel (Jean) Hennessey , passed away one week before Jerry.
Jerry will be buried beside his wife at the Delaware Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, in Bear, Delaware on Friday, September 22nd at 2:00. Family plans a private memorial service to be held near their 59th wedding anniversary in October. In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Seasons Hospice 253 Lewis Lane, Suite 303, Havre de Grace, MD 21078.
