Mark J. Russo, age 65, of Wilmington, DE passed away suddenly on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at his home.

Mark was born in Yellow Springs, Ohio, the son of the late John and Mary Harvey Russo. As a result of a near fatal drowning as a child, Mark was developmentally and cognitively delayed. Mark was diagnosed with Crohn's disease, which contributed to his compromised health. In 1969, Mark and his family moved to Delaware and in 1971 graduated from Concord High School.

Mark worked in maintenance for the Brandywine School District until his he was unable due to his condition. He could often be found reenacting the local Philadelphia DJ's as he enjoyed his record album collection. He had a passion for cars as well as music. He loved all genres especially the Beatles and Motown. He was a past member of the Brandywine Social Club, and enjoyed over 25 years with Easter Seals.

Mark always had a love for sports, and upon moving to Ingleside assisted apartments he found his true love, Ursuline Academy High School sports. As a fan of basketball and volleyball, it wasn't long before Mark made friends with the players, teams, coaches, referees and families of Ursuline and all the high schools. He kept in touch with so many of them. Mark was their biggest fan with the biggest heart.

Predeceased by his parents, Mark is survived by his sister, Andrea Russo Houser (Ken) and two brothers, Ronald (Deborah) and David (Eileen) all of Wilmington, an aunt, Elizabeth Russo, of Rochester, NY, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his caregivers, his friends at Ingleside and Easter Seals, nurses, and his beloved aide Kendra Watson as well as his case manager Kathy .

A Celebration of Mark's Life will be held on Friday, July 28, 2017 at 6:00 PM at the Ursuline Academy Laffey-McHugh Gymnasium, 1106 Pennsylvania Avenue, Wilmington, DE 19806. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ursuline Academy Scholarship Fund, 1106 Pennsylvania Ave, Wilmington, DE 19806 or the Easter Seals of Delaware, 61 Corporate Circle, New Castle, DE 19720.
