Richard L. (Dick) Recce, 94, went home to be with the Lord on February 8, 2017 at his residence in Wilmington, DE.

Dick was born and raised in Shamokin, PA. He graduated from Lafayette College with a chemical engineering degree and immediately found work in Oak Ridge, TN. There he was a foreman for the Tennessee Eastman Co. at their infamous Y-12 location. Also, during that time he met and later married Florence Brown his wife of over 70 years. At the end of World War II, his education and work experience led to a job with the DuPont Co. in Waynesboro, VA where he and Florence raised a family of six children.

In 1965, Dick was transferred by DuPont to Wilmington, DE to work in the Nemours Building and joined St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church. He served as cubmaster of the church's scout pack #342 for several years as well as a member of many church committees, while continuing to enjoy dancing, playing bridge, bowling, volleyball and singing in the choir. He retired from DuPont in 1985 after 38 years as a business analyst. This allowed him to continue his vocation as an ordained deacon at St. Mary Magdalen. He enjoyed visiting and comforting the elderly at local nursing homes, along with working in other outreach programs for the church. He was also very involved with the local AARP chapter acting at times as president or treasurer.

After serving as deacon for twenty years, Dick retired in 2000 but continued to volunteer his time with the aged. He thoroughly enjoyed a program he created that included singing old standards, reading aloud about bygone days and serving communion to an appreciative group at Rockland Place, an assisted living facility in Wilmington. This association with Rockland Place made it an ideal home where he and Florence resided for their remaining years.

Dick loved being involved with the community and projects that were near and dear to him. He was a man who always made himself available to those in need. He would easily volunteer his time for events that needed his leadership. Never one to complain or utter a harsh word, Dick accepted responsibility with resolved determination and expected as much from those who worked with him. When there was time, he liked to watch his beloved Dodgers or a good football game. He never missed a day reading the newspaper or relishing the solution to a difficult Sudoku puzzle.

He was predeceased by his wife and son Michael, who passed away at the tender age of five. Dick is survived by his children: Susan Alexakos (Nick) of Oakton, VA, Richard Recce (Sandy) of Green Valley, AZ, David Recce (Danna-jo) of Bear, DE, Alan Recce (Kirsten) of Carlsbad, CA and Sheila Albert (Harry) of Montgomery Village, MD as well as seven grandchildren: Christopher, Jonathan, Sydney-Anne, Ryan, Sean, Brandon and Sarah.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at 12:00PM at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 7 Sharpley Rd., Wilmington. Burial will be held at St. Joseph's on the Brandywine, Wilmington. Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 from 11:00AM-12:00PM at St. Mary Magdalen Church.
