Susan Frances Mercogliano, age 62, of Salisbury, Maryland died on Wednesday, August 2, 2017, with peace in her heart and her favorite things, her stuffed animal and purse in her arms. Susan was nurtured by a loving and enthusiastic family of caregivers for 39 years at Holly Center where she grew to be as fulfilled with purpose, promise and hope as any of us might aspire.

Born in Washington, DC with Cerebral Palsy, Susan never let physical or cognitive limitations define her. Throughout her life, she adapted in her own way to be a full participant in everything around her. Many people share stories about their interactions with Susie, always with a laugh and shake of the head. She never failed to entertain, and her own belly laugh could be heard from a distance when she was inspired by humor. She's a model of persistence and optimism and we're grateful to have had her in our lives.

Susan is predeceased by her father Charles Mercogliano, her mother Carol M Shulley and her brother John Mercogliano. She is survived by her brother Chris Mercogliano (Betsy) in Albany, NY, her sister Samantha Wallace (Howard) in Hockessin, DE, her nieces Lily Easton (David), Sarah Matzner (Joe) and great nieces Eleanor, Annalise and Lucille, all in Albany, NY.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Susan's Holly Center family. Everyone there treated her with devoted care and they enabled her to live a life filled with grace.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be in December and will be celebrated at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Hockessin, DE. Interment will be private.

Those wishing to honor Susan's memory are invited to contribute to the scholarship fund for Camp Wa Wa Segowea, a residential summer camp that Susan's nieces have been involved with for many years. Donations can be sent in care of Lily Easton to 20 Wilbur St., Albany, NY 12202.
