William E. Shone Jr., age 90, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully to be with his Lord on Friday, June 2nd, 2017.

Born in Bryn Mawr, PA, Bill graduated from Haverford High School. After serving his country in the Philippines during WWII, he earned a Mechanical Engineering Degree from Drexel University. Bill was also very proud of his Quaker heritage.

Bill was known for his honesty, fairness, and hard work. These traits served him well as the founder and President of Shone Lumber Company. Throughout his lifetime, Bill supported various organizations, including the Tri-State Bird Rescue and Middle Atlantic Lumberman's Association.

Bill is survived by his wife of 66 years, Phyllis B. Shone. He is also survived by his four children: Susan Stratton (David) of Wilmington, DE, Michael Shone (Sharon) of West Chester, PA, Debby Wilson (Scott) of Hockessin, DE, and John Shone (Kelly) of Newark, DE. He leaves behind 7 grandchildren: John, Rachel, Will, Mickey, Caroline, Charlie, and Hannah.

The family wishes to extend its' sincerest appreciation to the staff at Stonegates.

A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, June 7th, 2017 11:00AM at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church 1530 Foulk Road Wilmington, DE 19803. Visitation with family will occur from 10:00AM-11:00AM. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of William E. Shone Jr. may be sent to Tri-State Bird Rescue 170 Possum Hollow Road Newark, DE 19711 or to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church 1530 Foulk Road Wilmington, DE 19803.
