Anne Flick Garrison
1923-2012
Anne Flick Garrison, loving wife, mother, and educator, departed this life peacefully on March 2, 2012, as she held the hand of her devoted husband of 69 years. Born in Philadelphia in 1923, she was the daughter of Ardis Tanguay and Dr. John B. Flick, Sr. In 1942, she married Edward William Garrison in Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania.
Attending Baldwin School and Wellesley College, Anne completed her teaching degree at the University of Delaware. For over a decade, she was a beloved elementary school teacher in Newark, Delaware.
Along with raising four children, Anne was active in community service as a member of the Wellesley Club, and served as a docent guide for the Winterthur Museum in Wilmington, Delaware. She shared her passion for gardening, animals and traveling with her family together with her loving husband Ed.
In addition to her husband Ed, of West Grove, Pennsylvania, Anne is survived by her daughter, Penny Garrison Hill of Placitas, New Mexico; her three sons, Edward William Garrison, Jr., of Newark, Delaware, John Flick Garrison of San Diego, California, and David Wheatley Garrison of Park City, Utah; her brother, Dr. John B. Flick, Jr., of Wynnewood, Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Ardis Flick Parrott.
Warmly remembered for her angelic singing voice, her love of knitting and the piano, and her horticultural prowess with African violets, Anne will be greatly missed by family and friends alike. All will smile at the memory of Anne in her favorite bright, lime-green raincoat, brightening up even the dreariest of rainy days.
Services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, March 12, 2012 at CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 7230 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, Delaware, where friends may call beginning at 10:00 am. She will be buried in the Glebe Cemetery, New Castle, Delaware, following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Covenant House, PO Box 96708, Washington, DC 20090-6708.
