Daniel Crawford, age 46, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on September 5, 2008, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Dan was a proud veteran of the United States Army, and had served as a member of the United States Capitol Police in Washington, D.C., prior to coming to Delaware in 1991, when he began work as a Probation & Parole Officer. He eventually became a Correction Officer, working at Delaware Correctional Center. Dan's greatest accomplishment in life, and the source of his greatest joy, was being a father to his two daughters, Nora and Luisa, along with being married to his wife of 17 years, Mary McDonough.
In addition to his wife and daughters, Dan is survived by his father, Art, of Panama City, FL, and his older brother, Mike, of Petersburg, VA. He is also survived by the McDonough family, who never failed to treat him like one of their own. Along with his mother-in-law, Marjorie, Dan is survived by Jack and Patti, Tom and Kathleen, Joe and Chris, and Margo and Bill. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Dan was preceded in death by his mother, Judith, and younger brother, Scott, as well as by his father-in-law, Jack, and nephew, Andrew.
Dan's family would like to thank the health care professionals of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he received excellent care.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, 917 N. Madison Street, Wilmington, DE 19801, on Wednesday, September 10, 2008, at 6 pm. Visitation will be held at the church from 4:30 to 6 pm. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, it is Dan's request that donations be made to the Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation, in memory of his nephew. Donations may be sent to 101 Rockland Circle, Wilmington, DE 19803.
