Evelyn Beasley Steijn, age 87 of West Chester, PA, formerly of Hockessin, DE, passed away on May 14, 2012 at Barclay Friends.

The daughter of Willie D. and Lessie S. Beasley, Evelyn was born on December 29, 1924 in Wilson, North Carolina. In 1948 Mrs. Steijn graduated as a registered nurse from North Carolina Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Winston-Salem, NC. She enjoyed working in surgical nursing, home health nursing, medical including pediatrics, and public health over a period of over 40 years with time out for raising a family of four children.

Mrs. Steijn was a member of the Wilmington Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends, a Sojourner's Place board member for two years, and a Hickman Home board member for twelve years.

She is survived by her husband, Roelof P. Steijn; brother, Earle A. Beasley of Pagosa Springs, Colorado; son, Jacob J. and his wife, Alice (Thoreson), of Walla Walla, Washington; daughter, Patricia Steijn Hopkinson of Ann Arbor, Michigan; daughter, Joyce Steijn Nero and her husband Annibale of Milan, Italy; son, Kirk W. Steijn and his wife, Susan (Litty) of Simsbury, Connecticut; grandchildren Peter Steijn and his wife Rachelle Ruggle of Kirkland, Washington, Russell Hopkinson and his wife Myrrisa (Frederick) of Troy, Michigan; Rebecca Hopkinson of Brooklyn, NY; Mary Hopkinson of Ann Arbor, Michigan; Francesco and Paolo Nero of Milan, Italy; William, Nicholas, and Steven Steijn of Simsbury, CT; and two great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Evelyn is predeceased by three brothers, Eustace, W. D., and Cooper, all of North Carolina.

Evelyn and Roelof enjoyed 61 years of loving and dedicated marriage. Evelyn was a wise, loving and supportive mother, a caring nurse and a quiet, generous person with a keen understanding of human nature. She was deeply loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

An unprogrammed silent worship service in the manner of the Religious Society of Friends will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, May 27 at the Wilmington Friends Meeting House, 401 N. West Street, Wilmington, DE. Interment will be private.
